Inter-Communal Solidarity and Reconciliation
Between 2007 and 2013, Adyan organized community gatherings around the notion of repentance and reconciliation, targeting sectarian and community leaders in Beirut, Tripoli, Saida, Tyre, Rabweh, Abey and Harissa. The gatherings of this inter-community approach produced a statement in the name of the communities, suggesting a vision to reconcile and deal with the past and address the civil war. In 2012, Adyan worked in collaboration with the Municipality of A’bey, the Druze Council (Al-Majles Aldurzi), and the Church Council (Al-Majles Al-kanase) on reconciliation in A’bey, Mount Lebanon, where many sectarian battles and killings took place throughout the war. Adyan led the yearly National Spiritual Solidarity Day on the topic of the return of Christians to the village, emphasizing the multiple dimensions of ‘return’ such as the return to memory, land, and mutual trust. Adyan subsequently produced a publication rereading the history of inter-communal memories in A’bey through the collection of both communities’ memories about their village.
