Initiating the “National Poverty Targeting Program” (NPPT)

Saturday, October 1, 2011

Conceived during the Paris III international donors’ conference (2007), the NPTP was launched in 2011 through the allocation of $28 million, mostly funded through a loan from the World Bank. To this day, it constitutes the only operational safety net program in Lebanon, reaching a mere 1.5% of the Lebanese population as of March 2021. The impact that the NPTP has on the income of eligible populations is estimated to be less than 0.5% (ILO 2021, 12).
