On December 29, 2006, a Beirut judge sentenced a Sri Lankan worker to six months in jail for stealing $5,000 worth of money and jewelry from the employer—a charge the worker denied. The employer did not give details about the stolen items in his initial complaint, did not bother to attend any of the trial sessions, and did not request civil compensation. None of the allegedly stolen goods were recovered.
