Enactment of the Law Decree no. 220/2000 on the rights of persons with disabilities

Monday, September 25, 2000

Lebanon adopts Law 220 on the Rights of Disabled People (Law Decree no. 220/2000). The law is built around a set of rights integrating citizens with disabilities into social and economic life through employment, transport, and housing quotas, and guarantees of health and educational services. Disabled persons are targeted through ad hoc measures, and government and external donor-funding, rather than through structural social protection schemes.
The adoption of Law 220 was the result of a long mobilization by persons with disabilities’ organizations.
