Armed Conflict 1st half 2016
Baalbeck district saw the highest intensity of Armed Conflict in the first half of 2016. 84% of Armed Conflict occurring within Baalbeck are related to the Syrian crisis, often having to do with clashes on the border between the Lebanese Armed forces and transnational militants such as the Islamic State and Fatah al-Sham.
The district of Akkar saw 13 incidents that fall under Armed Conflict dimensions in the first half of 2016, with 8 of the incidents related to the Syrian Border Conflict. 5 of these incidents were also related to extremism carried out by Armed Militants, such as Islamic State fighters, though in three incidents, Heavy Artillery was used on the Syrian side of the border, crossing into Lebanese territory with an unspecified target.
In the first half of 2016, the district of Sour witnessed 84 incidents in the Armed Conflict dimension with 82% of them related to Border Conflict with Israel. 68 of the Armed Conflict incidents were Sea-Border Violations from the Israeli Military while 10 of the Armed Conflicts were incidents categorised as Explosions related to the Israeli conflict.
