Akkar MPs protest insufficient sum earmarked to region's development
NNA - The decree number 13068, issued on May 22 by the government, hereby earmarking USD 200 million in development projects for the different Lebanese regions, drew ire on Akkar lawmakers on Friday, as their region will only enjoy of USD 7 million.
The MPs considered that this insufficient amount was unfair and that it did not respect the policy of balanced development consecrated by the Constitution.
A delegation comprised of MPs Khaled Daher and Mouein Merehbi, as well as of the head of the region's municipalities unions, has been today to the Grand Serail to inform Prime Minister Tammam Salam of their "objection" to this decree.
The delegation also presented the Premier with a memorandum, hereby asking that Akkar, which represents 9% of Lebanon's area and where 16.5% of the population live, enjoys 13% of the overall sum stated in the decree.
