Protestors storm into the Social Affairs Ministry to ask about the government’s long-awaited ration card program

A group of protestors stormed into the Social Affairs Ministry Friday demanding to meet Minister Hector Hajjar. According to local media outlets, the protestors removed a picture of President Michel Aoun and hung in its place a banner of the October 17 revolution. Protestors asked Minister Hector Hajjar about the government’s long-awaited ration card program, designed to support the country’s neediest families in light of the full or partial removal of state subsidies on essential goods. Videos showed protestors shouting at Hajjar and ridiculing him as he was attempting to answer their questions, after which he retreated to his office and spoke to the press. After speaking with them, Minister Hector Hajjar held an impromptu press conference.

Minister Hector Hajjar filed a lawsuit against the protesters who stormed into the Ministry, and the demonstrators were summoned.
