The Lebanese Army arrested protesters after tensions escalated at a demonstration outside the Justice Palace Monday evening. Protesters were calling for the release of two activists who were arrested for their participation in last Wednesday’s Blom Bank holdup. Protesters blocked a road near the Justice Palace in Beirut, decrying the arrest of Abdel Rahman Zakaria and Mohammad Rustom, who aided Sali Hafez as she held up a Blom Bank in Beirut’s Sodeco neighborhood. 

Demonstrators arrested Monday evening in front of the Justice Palace were later released from army custody with injuries, according to several social news networks and a witness from the scene. According to Daleel Thawra and Thawra Map, 18 protesters were arrested, four of whom were later spotted in Martyrs' Square with injuries. According to the witness contacted by L’Orient-Le Jour, at least two protesters were transferred to a hospital. In videos posted on social networks, rescue workers with the Lebanese Red Cross can be seen helping the injured in Martyrs' Square.

Earlier in the day, the army announced via Twitter that four soldiers were injured while trying to "preserve security" near the Justice Palace in Beirut. The army also said protesters destroyed an army vehicle and a number of "civil cars," which "forced" the army to arrest some "trouble makers" and to shoot live ammunition in the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Four Lebanese Army soldiers were injured Monday evening after protesters outside the Justice Palace attacked them using sticks and rocks, the army said in a statement.

تجمّع أهالي الموقفين في قضيّة اقتحام المصارف أمام مدخل قصر العدل في بيروت، وحصل إشكال بين أهالي الموقوفَين محمد رستم وعبد الرحمن زكريا، وعناصر من الجيش الذين حاولوا إبعاد المعتصمين عن مدخل القصر بما يُمكن للقضاة والموظفين بالدخول والخروج. وعمد المحتجّون إلى خلع البوابة الرئيسية، حيث سادت حالة من الهرج والمرج. وقعت اشتباكات بين محتجين وقوّة من الجيش اللبناني، أمام مستديرة العدلية في بيروت، ما استدعى الجيش إلى إطلاق الرصاص في الهواء لتفرقة المتظاهرين. ونفّذ محتجون اعتصاماً ظهر اليوم أمام قصر العدل في بيروت احتجاجاً على توقيف محمد رستم وعبد الرحمن زكريا اللذين شاركا المودعة سالي حافظ عمليتها قبل أيام. من جهته، أعلن الجيش "تعرُّض دورية للرشق بالحجارة والاعتداء عليها بالعِصيّ من قبل متظاهرين قرب قصر العدل- بيروت، أثناء تنفيذها مهمة حفظ أمن، ما أدى إلى إصابة ٤ عسكريين بجروح". وأشارت إلى أن "المتظاهرين أثدموا على تحطيم آلية عسكرية وعدد من السيارات المدنية. وقد اضطر الجيش إلى إطلاق النار في الهواء لتفريقهم، كما أوقف عددًا من مثيري الشغب".
