Ogero employees protest proposed salary cuts

Employees at state-run telecommunications company Ogero went on strike across Lebanon to oppose cuts to their salaries proposed in this year’s draft budget. The allocations to Ogero earmarked for wages and salaries witnessed a significant reduction in the budget referred to Parliament from the Finance and Budget Committee. Around 100 Ogero employees gathered in Beirut’s Martyrs’ Square  before marching a short distance to the headquarters of the An-Nahar newspaper. The protest comes in tandem with the third consecutive day of discussions on the draft 2019 state budget in Parliament, where lawmakers have taken the podium one after the other to deliver speeches on the document.
