A man attempts to set himself on fire outside a school in Hasbaya to protest against the decision taken by the Education Minister to close secondary cycle classes

A man attempted to set himself on fire outside at the public girls’ school in Hasbaya on Thursday as he denounced a decision taken by the Education Minister Abbas Halabi to close secondary cycle classes, Al Nahar-reports. A video published on the newspaper’s website showed the man with a can of gasoline in his hand trying to spray himself with fuel to immolate himself before passersby intervened to prevent him from doing so. Taken by anger, the man screamed that “politics have ruined the country,” and that he “no longer wants to send his kids to school” but “wants to start selling chewing gum,” an activity widespread among street beggars in Lebanon.
