Families of detainees who were arrested in connection with the Beirut port blast stage a sit-in outside the house of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Suhail Abboud, to demand the release of their relatives
Several family members of those arrested in the Beirut port explosion file protested Friday in front of the house of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Suhail Abboud, to demand an end to the “injustice against their family members” and are calling for their immediate release, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Around 15 suspects, including former Customs Director Badri Daher, have been in detention for nearly two years for their alleged involvement in the Aug. 4, 2020 port explosion, in relation to the handling of the ammonium nitrate or in the fire that broke out in the Beirut port's hangar. None of them have had a proper trial, more than two years after the explosion. Their families regularly protest for their liberation, as the port investigation remains suspended due to judicial ambushes, particularly by politicians called for questioning in the tragic case.
