Families of Beirut port blast victims stage a sit-in outside the Beirut Courts of Justice to protest the appointment of a substitute judge in Beirut blast probe
Relatives of victims of the deadly August 4 port explosion organized a sit-in outside the Beirut Courts of Justice Tuesday to protest the appointment of a substitute judge in the investigation. The victims' families urged an end to the political interference that is hindering the work of Judge Bitar. Victims’ relatives have repeatedly protested the appointment, considering it an attempt to obstruct the investigation and avail politically connected detainees.
نفّذت تظاهرتان أمام مدخل قصر العدل في بيروت، الأولى لأهالي ضحايا انفجار مرفأ بيروت، بدأت عند العاشرة والنصف صباحاً، تبعها اعتصام لأهالي الموقوفين في القضية نفسها. وطالب أهالي ضحايا انفجار مرفأ بيروت خلال تظاهرة احتجاجيّة أمام قصر العدل بـ "وقف تعيين المحقّق العدلي الرّديف، وإطلاق مسار التّحقيق الذي يتولّاه القاضي طارق البيطار". وأعلنوا "معارضتهم تعيين القاضي المُقترح من وزير العدل في حكومة تصريف الأعمال هنري الخوري، لأنّ هذا القاضي أعطى رأياً مسبقاً في الملفّ". وأكدوا أنّ "كلّ شخص كان على علم بوجود النترات في المرفأ يتحمّل جزءاً من المسؤولية عن الانفجار". وشدّدوا على "استمراريّة التّحقيق القضائي ووقف التدخّلات السياسيّة في عمل القضاء".
