EDL workers block headquarters entrance in ongoing protest
Scores of workers had protested, burning trash near EDL’s headquarters in Corniche al-Nahr. The workers are demanding payment of salaries and long-term contracts that would cement their status on the company’s staff. Around 900 contract workers have previously been given long-term contracts with EDL, while some 1,300 others are still working on a day-to-day basis, a security source had told The Daily Star. Long-term contracts include a guarantee of work for an extended period and payment of transport fees, which come to around LL8,000 ($5.30) a day, the source added.
