Activists demonstrate in front of the Monnot Theatre in protest of the theatre hosting sexual harasser Michel Jabre
نظّم عدد من الناشطات تحرّكاً احتجاجيّاً أمام مسرح مونو لاستضافته المخرج والأستاذ المسرحي ميشال جبر لتدريب عدد من طلاب المسرح، رغم تاريخه الطويل بالتحرّش بطالباته. وقد علّقت الناشطات صور ميشال جبر أمام المسرح مذيّلةً بعبارة «متحرّش»، قبل مواجهته بالهتاف: «ميشال جبر متحرّش»، و« نصدّق الناجيات». الجدير بالذكر أنّ طالبات عديدات سبق أن فضحهن ارتكابات جبر عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، وقد نشرنَ 48 شهادة عن أفعال التحرّش التي قام بها بحقّ طالباته في الجامعة اليسوعية والجامعة اللبنانية، وقد تمّ تجاهل كلّ الشكاوى بحقّه.
أعلنت إدارة مسرح مونو، اليوم السبت، قطع العلاقة مع الممثّل والمخرج ميشال جبر، مع الإشارة إلى أنّ المسرح «يندّد بأيّ تحرّش بأيّ كان». جاء ذلك مع إصرار عدد من الشابّات على فضح جبر إثر تحرّكٍ لهنّ أمام المسرح، الثلاثاء الفائت، نشرنَ خلاله شهادات الناجيات تزامناً مع ورشة عمل كان ينوي جبر عقدها في المسرح. كما كنّ قد دعونَ لاعتصامٍ ثانٍ أمام المسرح، الثلاثاء المقبل، تحت عنوان «لأنّنا نصدّق الناجيات».
A number of activists demonstrated in front of the Monnot Theatre, in protest of the theatre hosting professor and theatre director Michel Jabre to give workshops for theatre students, despite his long history of sexually harassing his female students. Activists hung photos of Jabre in front of the theatre with “harasser” written at the bottom, then confronted Jabre by chanting “Michel Jabre is a harasser” and “We believe survivors.” Several students previously exposed Jabre’s sexual harassment on social media, publishing 48 testimonies of his crimes against students at the Saint-Joseph University and the Lebanese University, but all complaints against him have been ignored.
The management of Monnot Theater announced on Saturday, February 12 that it severed ties with actor and director Michel Jabre, stating that the theatre “condemns any harassment of any person.” The decision was made after several young ladies had exposed Jabre during a protest in front of the theatre last Tuesday, where he was due to hold a workshop, and hung the testimonies of survivors in the area. They had also called for a second protest next Tuesday, titled “Because we believe survivors.”
