Dr. Jad Chaaban
Dr. Jad Chaaban has been an Assistant Professor at the department of Economics at the American University of Beirut (AUB) since September 2006. Prior to coming to AUB, he held the position of an economist in the World Bank’s regional office in Beirut. During his work in the World Bank he undertook research related to poverty reduction and economic management, covering Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. He also contributed to drafting various policy strategies aiming at rationalizing poverty alleviation, reducing unemployment, reforming public sector expenditures and fostering economic growth. Dr. Jad Chaaban earned a Bachelors degree in Economics from the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1999, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the European School of Management in 2000 and another Masters degree in Environmental Economics from the University of Toulouse (France) in 2001. Dr Chaaban also completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Toulouse in 2004. Dr. Chaaban’s current research interests include theoretical and applied industrial organization, as well as new trade theories related to poverty reduction and economic development.
