Lebanon Support is seeking submissions for the fourth issue of the Civil Society Review:
Migration, mobility, and circulation in the Middle East: rethinking inequalities and informality
Issue edited by: Dr Maissam Nimer and Amreesha Jagarnathsingh
This Call for Papers aims to explore at the national (macro-), subnational/local (meso-), and individual (micro-) levels to which extent migration governance perpetuates inequality and social injustice. It seeks to examine how discourse and practices in migration are articulated, and to what extent these take into account the diversity of individual situations. It emphasises processes of inclusion and exclusion that underlie migration, and interrogates the norms diffused by the state, as well as instigated resistances, mobilisations, and conflicts. Moreover, this Call for Papers seeks to investigate refugees’ and migrants’ informal solutions to the constraints of migration governance.
Therefore, by way of illustration, we encourage submission tackling these issues from various disciplines, theoretical backgrounds, and methods. We especially welcome empirical papers that address the three lacunas identified above in spheres, forms, and policies about the following topics, among others:

What are the various everyday manifestations of refugee and migrant “integration”? What do the concepts of integration or diversity mean and entail in the varying local contexts across the region? Which are the strategies employed and challenges faced, depending on social positions and gendered practices among others? How do migrants adjust their trajectories and behave in order to “integrate” in host communities? How is agency produced in the context of formal and informal practices?

What is the role of invisible actors, both in origin and destination countries, in migration governance and in offering assistance or relief? What is the role of grassroots and civil society movements and actors in migratory and integration processes?

To what extent have policies adopted in the region been efficient in managing people on the move? To what extent are these policies and measures in accordance with human rights?
Submission guidelines and calendar

Abstracts should be sent to: editor@lebanon-support.org before 1 February, 2019.
Authors whose submissions have been accepted for publication will be notified in February 2019 by the editors.
Final papers should be shared with Lebanon Support for blind peer review by 15 May, 2019.
Submission guidelines
Lebanon Support encourages contributions from experienced scholars, early career researchers, PhD candidates, practitioners, activists, and civil society experts. Authors can submit papers in Arabic, English or French. All papers will go through a double blind peer-review process.
Priority will be given to submissions that adopt critical approaches to related concepts and categories, engage with a solid theoretical framework, and are based on empirical research. Case studies on national and local contexts in the MENA region and Turkey, as well as comparative submissions, are encouraged.
Abstract Submission Format
Submissions can be in Arabic, English, or French.
Please submit the following details in a word document/pdf file:
- Name(s)
- Title(s) and affiliation(s)
- Paper title
- Abstract, not exceeding 500 words
- Short bio of 250 words and one page CV
- Corresponding email address
Papers should be between 8,000 and 10,000 words. Practitioners testimonies should not exceed 3,000 words, and book reviews should be between 700 and 1000 words.

الهجرة والتنقل والحركة في الشرق الأوسط: إعادة النظر في مسألة عدم المساواة والقطاع غير النظامي

تهدف هذه الدعوة إلى استكشاف مدى تسبّب إدارة الهجرة في استدامة ظاهرتَي عدم المساواة والظلم الاجتماعي على كلّ من المستوى الوطني (الكلي) و دون الوطني/المحلّي (الأوسط) والفردي (الجزئي). كما تسعى إلى دراسة كيفيّة صياغة الخطابات والممارسات في سياق الهجرة ومدى أخذها في الحسبان لتنوّع الحالات الفرديّة. وبعد، تركّز هذه الدعوة على عمليّات الإدماج والتهميش الكامنة وراء الهجرة، وتشكل في المعايير التي تنشرها الدولة وحركات المقاومة المُثارة وعمليات التعبئة والصراعات. إضافةً إلى ذلك، تسعى هذه الدعوة إلى التحقيق في الحلول غير النظامية التي يتبنّاها اللاجئون والمهاجرون تصدّياً للحواجز التي تفرضها إدارة الهجرة
ولمزيد من الإيضاح، نشجّع تقديم الأوراق التي تعالج هذه القضايا من مختلف الاختصاصات والخلفيات النظرية والمنهجيات. ونرحّب بشكل خاصّ بالأوراق المستندة إلى بحث تجريبي، الّتي تتناول النواقص الثلاثة المحدّدة أعلاه في الميادين والأشكال والسياسات، في سياق المواضيع التالية
ما هي المظاهر اليومية المختلفة "لاندماج" اللاجئين والمهاجرين؟ ماذا تعني مفاهيم الإدماج والتنوع وما الآثار المترتبة عليها في السياقات المحلية المتنوعة في أنحاء المنطقة؟ ما هي الاستراتيجيات المعتمدة والتحديات الّتي تتم مواجهتها بالاعتماد على المكانة الاجتماعية والممارسات الجنسانية وغيرها من العوامل؟ ما هي الأساليب التي يعتمدها المهاجرون من أجل تصحيح مسارهم الاجتماعي و"الاندماج" في المجتمعات المضيفة؟ كيف يتمّ إطلاق التحركات في سياق الممارسات الشرعية وغير الشرعية؟
ما هو دور الجهات الفاعلة غير المرئية في البلدان الأصلية وبلدان المقصد على مستوى إدارة الهجرة وتقديم المساعدة أو الإغاثة؟ ما هو دور القواعد الشعبية وحركات المجتمع المدني والجهات الفاعلة فيه على مستوى الهجرة والإدماج الاجتماعي؟
إلى أي مدى أثبتت السياسات المتبنّاة في المنطقة فعاليّتها في إدارة الأشخاص المتنقّلين؟ إلى أي مدى تتوافق هذه السياسات والتدابير مع حقوق الإنسان؟

يجب تقديم الأوراق النهائية إلى منظمة "دعم لبنان" لإجراء مراجعة أقران سرية بحلول 15 أيّار 2019
إرشادات التقديم
يشجّع مركز دعم لبنان مشاركة الأكاديميون المتمرسون والباحثون في بدايات مسارهم المهني والمرشحون للحصول على شهادات الدكتوراه والممارسون والناشطون وخبراء المجتمع المدني. يمكن للمؤلفين تقديم أوراقهم باللغة العربية أو الإنكليزية أو الفرنسية. وستخضع كافّة الأوراق إلى مراجعة أقران مزدوجة سرية
وسيتمّ إعطاء الأولوية للأوراق التي تتبنّى مناهج نقدية للمفاهيم والفئات ذات الصلة، وتستند إلى إطار نظري متين، وتعتمد على البحوث القائمة على التجربة. ويتمّ تشجيع دراسات الحالة حول السياقات الوطنية والمحلية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا وتركيا، كما يتمّ تشجيع دراسات المقارنة
