Sexual harasser Samer Mawlawi is in custody pending investigation, by decision of North Lebanon Prosecutor Matilda Touma, following an enquiry by the Tripoli Investigation Branch. The case is now in the hands of the Public Prosecution, who will decide if he should stay arrested or be released in the upcoming days. Lawyer Khaled Merheb filed a complaint against Mawlawi in the name of victims from the Abi Samra High School in Tripoli, on February 2, 2022. Marwali had fled Tripoli on December 6, 2021, after his high school students exposed his crimes and stormed the principal’s office to demand that he be fired and held accountable. This is the first time a sexual harasser is arrested under the new law criminalizing harassment, passed in December 2020. This is also the second complaint filed under this law, the first being against director Jaafar Attar.

أُوقِفَ المتحرّش سامر مولوي، أمس الجمعة، على ذمّة التحقيق بإشارةٍ من مدّعي عام الشمال ماتيلدا توما، وتنتظر الملف محطّةٌ جديدة في الأيّام المقبلة لدى النيابة العامة. جاءت هذه الخطوة بعد توسّع فرع تحرّي طرابلس بالتحقيقات، على خلفية الملف الذي قدّمه المحامي خالد مرعب في 2 شباط الفائت، باسم الضحايا من  طالبات ثانويةأبي سمرا في طرابلس. وكان مولوي قد فرّ من طرابلس في 6 كانون الأوّل 2021، بعدما فضحت طالبات الثانوية تجاوزاته، وبعدما اقتحم الطلّاب مكتب المدير مطالبين بفصل مولوي ومعاقبته. تجدر الإشارة إلى أنّ هذه هي المرّة الأولى التي يتم فيها توقيف متحرّشٍ بموجب قانون تجريم التحرّش الجديد، الصادر في كانون الأول 2020. كما أنّ هذا هو الملف الثاني المُقَدَّم بموجب هذا القانون، فيما يعود الملف الأوّل للمخرج جعفر العطّار.
