أصدر وزير الثقافة محمد المرتضى، مساء اليوم، قراراً بضمّ مبنى الأهراءات في مرفأ بيروت إلى لائحة الجرد العام للأبنية التاريخية، وبالتالي منع «أي عمل من شأنه تغيير وضعها الحالي إلا بعد موافقة وزير الثقافة المسبقة على الأعمال المراد إجراؤها والوسائل والمواد المنوي استعمالها». ورأى البيان الصادر عن وزير الثقافة أنّ الأهراءات تحوّلت بعد انفجار 4 آب رمزًا يجسّد «صورة مدينة نكبها الانفجار»، ممّا يقتضي حفظها و«توريثها للأجيال المستقبلية».

This evening, Culture Minister Mohammad Mortada issued a decision to add the Beirut port silos to the general inventory of historical buildings, thus preventing “any action that would change their current status without the prior approval of the Minister of Culture on the works to be performed and the means and materials to be used.” The minister's statement added that following the August 4 blast, the silos have become a symbol “of a city afflicted by the explosion,” which should be preserved and "handed down to future generations."
