Council of Ministers reappoints Major-General Tony Saliba as Director-General of State Security although he is a defendant in the Beirut Port Blast case

On Thursday, the Council of Ministers reappointed Major-General Tony Saliba, who is affiliated with the president, Director-General of State Security, although he is a defendant in the Beirut Port Explosion case. Judge Tarek Bitar repeatedly asked for permission to prosecute Saliba, but the Higher Defense Council refused to respond to Bitar's request.
أعاد مجلس الوزراء، أمس، تعيين اللواء طوني صليبا (المحسوب على رئيس الجمهوريّة) مديراً عاماً لأمن الدولة، رغم كونه أحد المتّهمين في قضية انفجار مرفأ بيروت. وكان القاضي طارق بيطار قد طلب أكثر من مرّة الإذن لملاحقة صليبا، إلا أنّ المجلس الأعلى للدفاع رفض الاستجابة لطلب بيطار.
