Cabinet approves step to plug power shortage

Government officials approved a proposal set forth by the energy minister, who nonetheless warned that the country would again face electricity shortages this summer. A consensus was reached on the electricity issue regarding the need to establish fixed and temporary plants and new conditions. Cabinet also decided to extend Law 54, which allows the private sector to generate electricity in line with Energy and Finance Ministry proposals. The potential of buying energy from Syria will be discussed at the next Cabinet session.
