Aoun seeks repeal of merit-based appointment law

 President Michel Aoun asked the Constitutional Council Wednesday to repeal a recently passed law that creates a competency-based mechanism for appointing senior civil servants. Aoun said in a statement released by his press office that the law, which passed at Parliament’s May 28 legislative session and removed the ability of ministers to appoint civil servants, was unconstitutional.
