Cabinet approves key judicial appointments

Date:
Thursday, September 12, 2019

The Cabinet Thursday approved a series of long-awaited key judicial appointments, a move reflecting its determination to fight rampant corruption in the public administration and curb the waste of public funds, a key demand of international donors. Despite reservations voiced by Lebanese Forces ministers over one judge, the appointment of new judges to vacant high-ranking positions in the judiciary was approved unanimously, Minister of State for Presidency Affairs Salim Jreissati told reporters after the meeting chaired by President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace.

The judicial appointments were listed on a 29-item agenda addressed by the Cabinet. Some of the new appointees replaced judges who had served in their positions in an acting capacity for more than 15 years.
