Over 150 people, including 55 children, were detained Thursday being smuggled into Lebanese territory by human traffickers, according to a statement released by the Internal Security Forces.

The traffickers, identified as M.B. and K. D., both Syrian nationals, were caught smuggling the people in the village of Suweiri in Western Bekaa. The arrests came as a result of an ISF initiative aimed at cracking down on human trafficking between Lebanon and Syria.

The migrants who were being smuggled into the country were handed over to the relevant officials, and their cases will be considered following an investigation. They face charges of attempting to enter Lebanese territory illegally. The traffickers also face multiple charges.
