The Cabinet Tuesday approved the extension of general mobilization by another month amid an alarming surge in coronavirus cases and a warning of a new wave of the pandemic in October.

The Cabinet, which met under President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace, approved a recommendation by the Higher Defense Council to extend until Aug. 2 the state of general mobilization, which expires on July 5, Information Minister Manal Abdel-Samad told The Daily Star after the session.

It is the seventh extension of the general mobilization measures that have been in force since March 15 to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
