Hariri launches paper recycling initiative

Date:
Tuesday, April 24, 2018

Prime Minister Saad Hariri Tuesday launched "Beirut's Paper," a program aimed to sort paper and cardboard in government buildings to reduce the amount of waste landfilled and incinerated. He urged Parliament to sign the solid house waste management law that has been stuck at committee stage for six years. Hariri signed the circular on the recycling program, which will be circulated to all concerned institutions and departments to ensure the implementation is followed. The project includes an awareness campaign and requires the installation of containers to compartmentalize waste material that will later be taken for recycling. A liaison officer will be hired to ensure that the program is followed.
